High Cube Containers Overview

High cube containers give you an extra 300mm of internal height over a standard general purpose container – and for industrial Perth, that 300mm changes everything. It’s the difference between fitting a pallet of mining gear standing upright versus laying it on its side. It’s the headroom that turns a container into a workable site office, workshop, or accommodation unit. And for bulky goods, palletised cargo, and equipment that just won’t squeeze into a standard 8’6″ box, the high cube is the answer.

Our high cubes are built from the same marine-grade Corten weathering steel as our standard containers – corrugated walls, 28mm marine plywood flooring, full-height double doors that swing through 270 degrees. Every unit lands at our Perth depot ISO-certified, CSC-plated, and wind-and-watertight. The only difference is that extra foot up top.

For mining and resources customers, the 40ft high cube is the industry standard. It’s specified across BHP, Rio Tinto, and Fortescue sites because it accepts modifications cleanly – insulation, framing, electrical fit-outs, HVAC ductwork – without compromising headroom inside. For commercial customers, the extra cubic metres mean fewer containers on site for the same storage capacity. For builders, it means a site office that doesn’t feel like a shipping container.

We stock 20ft and 40ft high cubes at our Perth depot in both Premium Used (cargo-worthy, 1–3 international voyages, minor cosmetic wear) and New 1-Trip (single voyage from Asia, pristine inside and out) condition.

Common Applications

Mining & Resources

The 40ft high cube is the default specification for fly-camp accommodation, modified workshops, parts stores, and crib rooms across the Pilbara and Goldfields. The extra height accepts ceiling-mounted HVAC and electrical reticulation without losing standing room.

Modified Site Offices

Once you frame and line a standard container, you lose around 100mm of head height. A high cube preserves a fully functional 2.4m+ ceiling after fit-out, so the space feels like an office, not a tunnel.

Bulky Goods Storage

Furniture, palletised stock stacked two high, vehicles on tilt-trays, ag equipment, and machinery that exceeds standard container height. Get more in one box.

Container Conversions

The high cube is the preferred base unit for cafes, pop-up retail, accommodation pods, and any modification where headroom matters to the end user.

Bulk Materials Handling

Grain, feed, fertiliser, and aggregates benefit from the additional cubic capacity. More volume per delivery means fewer trips.

Equipment & Vehicle Storage

Standard utes, quad bikes, ride-on mowers, and small machinery fit comfortably. With double doors at 2.58m high, drive-in/drive-out is straightforward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Height. A high cube is exactly 300mm (one foot) taller than a standard container – 2.90m external versus 2.59m. Everything else is identical: same length, same width, same construction, same doors at the rear. The only design change is the wall height.
Slightly more. The additional steel adds roughly $600–$800 to a 20ft and similar to a 40ft. For most industrial applications the extra capacity easily justifies the premium.
Yes. Total transport height with a high cube on a tilt-tray comes in under the 4.3m WA road limit, but loading clearances at your site (overhead powerlines, gantries, awnings) need to be checked. Our delivery team will assess site access during the quote.
Yes – high cubes ship globally and meet ISO 668 standards. They stack and lock with standard containers using corner castings.
10ft high cubes are available on order but aren’t standard depot stock. Most 10ft demand is met by standard 10ft units. Ask us if you need one and we’ll source it.
40ft new (1-trip) is the industry-preferred specification – clean walls for cladding, full 12m of internal length to fit a meeting room, two offices, and a kitchenette, plus the extra height for HVAC.
