40ft High Cube Container Overview

The 40ft high cube is the most-specified container in industrial Perth. Twelve metres long, two-point-nine metres tall, and 76.2 cubic metres of weatherproof internal volume. It’s the base unit for the majority of our mining modifications, the standard for bulk storage and palletised cargo, and the container of choice when you need maximum capacity in a single delivery.

The height advantage matters more than people realise. Standard containers sit at 2.39m internal height – by the time you frame, insulate, and line them, you’ve got 2.2m of headroom, which feels tight for anyone over six foot. The 40ft high cube starts at 2.69m internally, so a fully fitted-out office, workshop, or accommodation unit still feels like a proper room. For unmodified storage, the extra 300mm lets you stack pallets two high in many applications, or store taller machinery without tilting it.

Construction is identical to a standard 40ft: marine-grade Corten weathering steel walls, 28mm structural plywood floor rated for forklift traffic, full-width double doors at the rear that swing 270 degrees against the side walls. Every unit is wind-and-watertight on delivery and carries current ISO 668 and CSC certification for global shipping.

Premium Used ($4,200) are cargo-worthy units that have made one to three international voyages. Structurally sound, fully sealed, with cosmetic wear typical of working containers – small dents, surface rust on the corrugations, faded paint. Inspect them yourself at our depot.

New 1-Trip ($5,950) are factory-fresh containers shipped once from Asia. Pristine paint inside and out, no rust, no dents. These are what we recommend for any modification project, customer-facing application, or long-term placement where appearance matters.

Common Applications

Mining Site Offices & Crib Rooms

The 40ft high cube modified out as a four-person office, dual-occupancy donga, or sit-down crib room is the standard fly-camp building block across WA’s resources sector.

Workshop & Maintenance Bay

Twelve metres of internal length swallows a service bay with workbench, tool storage, parts shelving, and floor space to roll a vehicle in.

Bulk & Palletised Storage

Twenty Australian standard pallets fit in a 40ft high cube. With the extra height, many products stack two-high, doubling effective capacity.

Vehicle & Machinery Storage

Utes, quad bikes, small earthmoving equipment, and trailers fit with room to spare. The 2.58m door height accepts most light commercial vehicles.

Custom Modification Base

Cafes, pop-up retail, container homes, accommodation pods, and specialised industrial conversions are typically built on a 40ft high cube for maximum flexibility.

Long-Distance Freight

If you’re moving the contents of a 3–4 bedroom home, a small business inventory, or a workshop, a single 40ft high cube usually does it.

Frequently Asked Questions

76.2 cubic metres of internal volume. As a practical guide: 20 Australian standard pallets on the floor, a 4-bedroom home’s contents with furniture, a small car plus a workshop’s worth of tools, or about 26 tonnes of palletised cargo.
We use a tilt-tray or side-loader depending on site access. Minimum clearances are 14m length for the truck, 3.5m width, and 4.5m overhead. Tight sites with overhanging trees, awnings, or powerlines need a site assessment – our team handles that during the quote.
A 40ft high cube is 12 metres long. Most suburban driveways won’t take one and most residential blocks struggle for placement. For homes we usually recommend a 20ft. For semi-rural and acreage properties, the 40ft is no problem.
For short to medium term, yes – provided the ground is firm and reasonably level. For long-term placement we recommend railway sleepers or concrete pads under each of the four corner castings to keep the base off moisture and maintain door alignment.
They’re the preferred base unit. The extra height gives you room for HVAC, ceiling cladding, insulation, and lighting without losing usable headroom. New 1-trip units are recommended for any modification project to avoid working around existing dents or rust.
20–30+ years with minimal maintenance. Corten steel forms a stable surface oxidation that prevents deeper corrosion. Keep the roof clear of debris, lubricate the door hinges annually, and the container will outlast most other site infrastructure.
Yes – our modifications team installs personnel doors, windows, vents, and side openings to spec. Quote separately on top of the container price.
Routinely. Delivery to Geraldton, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Port Hedland, and Pilbara mine sites is part of what we do. Pricing is quoted per location based on distance and access.
