Custom Container Projects

Bespoke container builds for unconventional briefs. If it can be specified, we can build it. Design consultation, engineering certification, and Perth-built delivery.

When Off-the-Shelf Doesn’t Fit

Most container work is well-defined. Site office, ablution, workshop, storage – the briefs are familiar, the builds are repeatable, the lead times are predictable. But not everything fits into a standard category. We’ve built container projects for installations that didn’t exist as a product anywhere – film production trailers, container homes, hospitality fit-outs, scientific instrumentation enclosures, art commissions, restaurant kiosks, mobile clinics, training facilities, sports infrastructure, and several things we can’t talk about under NDA.

That’s what the custom projects function does. Take a brief – sometimes a sketch on a napkin, sometimes a full architect’s drawing set – and turn it into a buildable, compliant, deliverable container project. Engineering where required. Compliance documentation that holds up. Build quality that doesn’t compromise just because the brief is unusual.

What Custom Projects Have Included

Hospitality

Container cafes, bars, restaurants, and pop-up retail with full commercial kitchen fit-outs, customer-facing facades, branded external cladding, and compliance to all relevant food handling and licensing standards.

Container Homes

Single, two-container, and multi-container residential dwellings. From simple weekenders to permanent multi-bedroom homes with full architectural design, council approval, and building surveyor sign-off. Often the most personal projects we do.

Production and Film

Mobile production offices, edit suites, makeup and wardrobe trailers, and on-location facilities for film and television production. Built for fast deployment and minimal site impact.

Education and Training

Mobile classrooms, training simulators, technical training workshops, and assessment facilities. Often built for industry training providers needing relocatable infrastructure across multiple sites.

Healthcare and Medical

Mobile clinics, blood collection units, vaccination centres, and screening facilities. Built to healthcare facility standards with appropriate infection control, accessibility, and regulatory compliance.

Scientific and Industrial

Climate-controlled laboratories, instrumentation enclosures, calibration rooms, and clean-room facilities. EMC-shielded constructions where required for sensitive electronics.

Sports and Recreation

Sports club facilities, change rooms, judging towers, equipment stores, and field-side amenities for sporting facilities across WA.

Art and Architecture

Sculptural installations, gallery spaces, public art commissions, and architectural features. Where the container is the brief, not just the means.

How Custom Projects Work

Initial consultation

Send us the brief – drawings, photos, references, or a description. We come back within 48 hours with a feasibility view, a rough cost envelope, and the questions we need answered to quote properly.

Design development

For complex projects, we work through design development with you – sometimes with your architect or designer, sometimes leading the design ourselves. Engineering, compliance pathway, and buildability get worked out at this stage.

Fixed-price quote

Once the spec is locked, we quote a fixed price with engineering, build, delivery, and certification all costed in. Variations during build are quoted before work proceeds – no surprise invoices.

Build at our Perth workshop

Construction happens at our workshop with periodic update photos. For larger or sensitive projects, you’re welcome to inspect at milestones. We don’t subcontract custom work offshore – quality and timeline accountability stay with us.

Compliance and certification

Engineer-signed drawings, AS-standard compliance, building surveyor sign-off where required, council approval support, and any specialised certification (food handling, healthcare, etc.) coordinated through the build.

Delivery and commissioning

Transport, positioning, and any commissioning work (HVAC start-up, electrical certification on connection, etc.) handled or coordinated. The handover is the project being operational, not just delivered.

What We Need to Quote a Custom Project

  • A brief in any form. Hand sketches, Pinterest boards, full drawings, written descriptions – whatever you’ve got. We work with each.
  • The use case and operational requirements. What’s it for, who uses it, where does it go, how long does it stay there, what services does it connect to.
  • Any non-negotiable constraints. Budget envelope, deadline, council requirements, brand or design constraints, specific compliance needs.
  • Site information where relevant. Address, ground conditions, access, services available. For projects with site-specific engineering, this information drives the design.

We can quote concept-level pricing on a brief alone, and refine to fixed-price as design develops. For exploratory conversations, no commitment – call us and we’ll talk through what’s possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Anything from a $20,000 modification upward. Smaller jobs sometimes fit better with our standard modified container range – we’ll tell you honestly if a custom build is overkill for your need.
Multi-container projects up to 12+ units integrated into single builds, with values in the seven-figure range. Mining accommodation villages, multi-tenant container retail precincts, and large hospitality builds are typical of our larger projects.
Absolutely – and we encourage it for any project with significant design content. We provide buildability advice, engineering input, and material guidance to architects working on container projects. Many of our most successful builds come through architects who’ve worked with us before.
Yes – though council approval pathways for permanent container residences vary significantly between WA councils. Some councils are container-friendly with established approval processes; others require substantial documentation and design effort. We’ll be honest about the approval reality for your specific location at first consultation.
Most use cases have a compliance pathway, but it varies in complexity. Standard building uses (offices, residences, retail) are well-trodden. Unusual uses (laboratories, clinics, food premises) require specialised compliance work which we coordinate with appropriate certifiers. We’ll outline the compliance pathway clearly at quote time.
Simple custom builds (one container, single use): 6–10 weeks. Multi-container projects: 12–24 weeks. Complex projects with engineering and approval pathways: 6–12 months end to end. We give realistic timelines at quote and stick to them.
We supply the engineering and compliance documentation required for submissions. The submission itself is usually handled by your architect, town planner, or building surveyor – we work directly with them to provide what they need. For straightforward submissions we can handle them directly if preferred.
Most can. Container-based construction is inherently relocatable. We design for relocation where it’s part of the brief – modular services connections, lifting points, transport-compatible dimensions. Some highly customised builds with deep site integration (utilities tied in permanently, foundations built around them) become difficult to move; we’ll discuss this honestly during design.
Our standard build warranty is 12 months on workmanship and materials, plus manufacturer warranties on installed equipment (HVAC, appliances, etc.) which typically run 2–5 years. Structural container shell is warranted against premature failure (rust-through, structural defect) for 5 years on new 1-trip base units.
