Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we get asked most – about containers, delivery, modifications, hire, and compliance. If yours isn’t here, call us on 08 6245 7940.

Buying a Container

New (1-Trip) containers are factory-fresh – they’ve made a single journey from Asia to Australia with cargo, then come straight to our depot. Pristine paint, no rust, no dents. Premium Used containers are cargo-worthy units that have made 1–3 international voyages – structurally sound, fully weatherproof, with cosmetic wear (small dents, surface rust on corrugations, faded paint). Both are wind-and-watertight on delivery. New 1-Trip is recommended for modifications and customer-facing use; Premium Used is the right call for storage and most industrial applications.
20–30+ years with minimal maintenance. Corten weathering steel forms a stable surface oxidation that prevents deeper corrosion. Keep the roof clear of debris, lubricate the door hinges annually, and the container outlasts most other site infrastructure. Coastal salt-air locations may need additional protection (galvanised hardware, periodic painting) to maintain appearance over 20+ years.
Absolutely – we encourage it. Our depot at Suite 233/50 St Georges Terrace is open Monday to Friday 7am–5pm and Saturday 8am–12pm. Walk in or book an appointment by calling 08 6245 7940. Inspect the specific unit being delivered, ask questions, and sign off before it leaves the yard.
Yes. All our containers are cargo-worthy by definition – they pass strict international shipping standards for weatherproofing. Door seals, roof, walls, and floor are designed to keep contents completely dry during ocean voyages in any weather. We guarantee every container is wind-and-watertight on delivery.
Tell us. We replace defective units at our cost. The 47-point pre-delivery inspection catches most issues before they leave the depot, but the rare unit that slips through gets swapped without argument.

Delivery & Logistics

Perth metro delivery starts from $250 depending on suburb and site access. Outer metro is $350. Regional WA pricing depends on distance – Bunbury from $850, Geraldton from $1,250, Goldfields from $1,650, Pilbara from $3,200. Full pricing is on our pricing page. Free delivery applies on container purchases over $15,000 within Perth metro and on hire arrangements of 6+ months.
Perth metro: 2–7 business days from order confirmation. Outer metro and South-West: 5–10 business days. Pilbara, Goldfields, and Kimberley: 7–14 business days depending on transport availability and access. Urgent delivery within 24–48 hours is sometimes possible for Perth metro – call to confirm.
Three main options depending on site access. Tilt-tray is the standard – the truck tray tilts to slide the container off at ground level. Side-loader lifts the container to the side of the truck, useful for tight sites where you can’t position the truck longways. Hiab crane is for difficult placements requiring lifting over obstacles. We assess your site at quote and recommend the best option.
For a tilt-tray with a 20ft container, allow 12 metres clear length and 3.5 metres width. For 40ft containers, 16 metres length. Overhead clearance is 4.5 metres minimum. Sites with overhanging trees, awnings, powerlines, or tight access need a pre-delivery assessment – our team handles that during the quote stage.
Routinely. Karratha, Port Hedland, Tom Price, Newman, Paraburdoo, Roy Hill, Kalgoorlie, Leinster, Norseman, and the major Kimberley operations are all standard destinations. We coordinate road train transport, escort vehicles where required, and gate-access protocols with your site logistics team.
For short to medium term, yes – provided the ground is firm and reasonably level. For long-term placement we recommend railway sleepers or concrete piers under each of the four corner castings to keep the base off moisture and maintain door alignment. Soft ground (sand, fill, lawn) needs preparation regardless of placement duration.

Hire & Lease Arrangements

For unmodified containers, one week. For modified units (site offices, ablutions, accommodation), six months minimum because the fit-out costs need to amortise. Reefers and dangerous goods units typically have a one-month minimum.
On hires of six months or longer, delivery and pickup within Perth metro is included. Shorter hires have delivery charged separately at standard rates. Regional delivery is always quoted separately based on location.
You tell us you’re done, we book a pickup, we send a tilt-tray to collect. Final invoice covers pro-rated days plus pickup fee (waived on 6+ month hires). End-of-hire inspection happens at the depot for any damage assessment.
Yes. Hire-to-own buy-out is available at any point. Some of the hire paid credits toward the purchase price, depending on hire duration. Often makes sense after 12+ months when the math starts favouring ownership.
Hire extensions are straightforward – call us, tell us the new end date, we update the agreement. No re-contracting, no rate hikes mid-hire.
Yes. Fleet-scale leasing arrangements (10+ units) are quoted with consolidated billing, dedicated account management, and priority delivery. Talk to our commercial team about master service agreements and panel arrangements.

Modifications & Custom Builds

Yes. All modifications happen at our Perth workshop with WA-licensed electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and HVAC technicians. We don’t subcontract offshore. Build quality and timeline accountability stay with us.

Basic site office: 4–6 weeks. Premium fitted office: 6–10 weeks. Ablution blocks and accommodation: 8–12 weeks. Complex custom builds: 12–24 weeks depending on scope. We give firm dates at quote and meet them.
Yes. Every modification is built to relevant Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000 electrical, AS/NZS 3500 plumbing, AS 1940/4326/3780 for DG, etc.) and to the National Construction Code where it applies to habitable space. Engineer-signed drawings and compliance certificates are included in the quoted price.
Absolutely. Send us drawings from your architect or engineer and we’ll quote against the spec. If you’ve only got concept ideas, our design team will work them up into something buildable.
Yes – bring it to our workshop or we’ll arrange transport. We inspect first to confirm structural soundness and suitability for the planned modification, then quote the modification cost.
Yes – that’s a core advantage of container construction. Disconnect services, lift onto a tilt-tray, deliver to the next site. Most modifications relocate multiple times across their service life.

Compliance & Approvals

For temporary storage (typically under 6–12 months) on residential or commercial property, most Perth councils don’t require approval. For permanent placement, commercial use in residential zones, or modified habitable buildings (offices, residences), DA is usually required. We supply structural drawings and elevations needed for submission; your town planner or surveyor handles the council interface.

Mining sites have their own approval frameworks via DMIRS (for safety, dangerous goods, accommodation) and operator-specific procedures. We supply the engineering documentation, AS-standard certifications, and structural calculations required for site notifications. Your site environment and approvals team handles regulatory submissions.

Yes. Our DG containers are engineered and certified to AS 1940 (flammable and combustible liquids), AS 4326 (corrosives), AS 3780 (toxic substances), or AS 4332 (gases) as applicable to the storage class. Bund capacity meets or exceeds the required 25% of total stored volume / 110% of the largest single container.
Yes – included with every DG container. Mandatory class diamonds, no-smoking and no-ignition signage, emergency contact placards, and an internal MSDS document holder come as standard.

Pricing & Payment

Because the lowest price usually means corner-cutting somewhere. Offshore-manufactured modifications, used reefers without serviced refrigeration, “premium used” containers that are actually B-grade, DG containers without proper compliance certification. Industrial buyers pay our prices because they’ve been burned by the cheap option before and don’t want to repeat the experience.
Container finance is available through several third-party providers – we can refer you to brokers we’ve worked with. Lease-to-own structures are also available for purchases over $25,000.
For standard containers, payment is in full before delivery. For modified containers and custom builds, we take 50% on order with the balance due before delivery. For long-term hire arrangements, we invoice monthly in advance with a security bond against damage (refunded at end of hire).
No. All published prices are ex GST. GST is itemised on the invoice.
For genuinely comparable products (same condition, same specification, same delivery terms) yes – call us with the competing quote and we’ll either match it or explain why the comparison isn’t apples-to-apples.
